Seasonal decorating trend predictors

This January, Messe Frankfurt Exhibition GmBH organized Christmasworld 2018, the largest international platform and trade fair for seasonal and festive decorations. The Christmasworld event brings manufacturers together with retailers and buyers each year in Frankfurt, Germany.

The 2018 show (paired with Floradecora) hosted over 1000 exhibitors from 43 countries and 43,000 visitors. From table settings to lights and tree decorations, the show identified seasonal style trends in content, color, shape, and texture. Products featured there became available for purchase in September.

From Christmasworld to you

This year, European trend forecasting firm bora.herke.palmisano was commissioned to make holiday predictions at the show. The firm presented displays revolving around these themes:

  • Vivid heritage - a shout out to ethnic motifs and handicrafts, using bright colors like mustard and red, with a nod to humorous touches.
  • Balanced sobriety - an understated look with a Japanese aesthetic, with a white, black and red color palette, and simple geometric shapes and star motifs.
  • Eclectic gathering - a celebration of fanciful and quirky plants, underwater creatures, and insects in saturated neon colors like lemon, pink and orange.

Selfridges department store is using glossy reds, greens and metallics in store windows this year, along with mirrors, velvet and sequins. And florists have identified blue, green, lime green and flat black as 2018 trending colors.
